"I Have Bad News and I Have Good News "

The bad news is,
last week I opened my refrigerator door to pour a glass of water.
As I was taking my sip I thought "Yuck", the water was warm. I reached back into the fridge and felt a can of soda. It too was not very cold.

I won't tell you the next word that came to mind! The motor was still running and everything inside the freezer was frozen. Strange.

My next move was to call my local appliance repair man. And by local, I mean he lives two blocks from my house. He has been here many times over the years and is familiar with my old appliances!

The good news is that nothing was seriously wrong with my almost twenty year old refrigerator, it just needed a good cleaning. It's not like the old days when you could vacuum the coils in the back. The back is enclosed and has to be taken apart to be cleaned.

The bad news is that I had to use my blood pressure medication money to pay him his very reasonable $50.00 fee.

The good news is that my doctor gave me a months worth of free samples!

The bad news is that I still haven't found my lost bracelet. I don't know where to look anymore.

The good news is that I remembered wearing it around Christmas time and my husband suggested that it may have been accidentally packed away with all of the decorations so there is still hope.
However, I am not going searching through twelve or more tubs to look for it!

The bad news is that this past Tuesday as my handsome husband was opening his trailer doors to deliver a load for work, he slipped and fell hard, on the ice.

He landed on his side and thought that he cracked a rib but he wouldn't have anyway of knowing this as his company wouldn't let him go to the hospital until his trailer was unloaded and he drove 190 miles to his next delivery spot and delivered his second load the NEXT MORNING!!!

In the meantime he is in severe pain. My husband handles pain very well, so we were both worried. He drove the 190 miles in pain not knowing what was going on and feeling dizzy (yeah that's safe) when he reached his destination.

He had to call his company and do a bit of arguing before they let him drop the trailer that day and drive to the hospital.

The good news is that nothing was cracked or broken. The doctor said that he had severely bruised ribs, arm and knee. They told him to get a few days rest. Now, if the doctor does not release him to work (according to company policy) he would not be allowed to drive the truck and would have had to stay in his cab at the hospital until the doctor would release him. So he said that he would rather be released so that maybe he could get home.

Meanwhile he has been working the rest of the week in a great deal of pain. He isn't allowed to take ANY narcotics for obvious reasons and has been relying on Ibuprofen.

The good news is that I think he will be home tomorrow. But that could always change.

The bad news is that yesterday morning I sleepily turned on the coffee pot, the last gift that my mother gave us and a beauty at that, went to brush my teeth, came out of the bathroom to pour my coffee and there was about a half of a cup in the pot. Sigh.....

After I was a bit more awake I checked the whole coffee maker and came to the conclusion that it had died.

My husband told me not to throw it out until he could give it a once over himself, so it is sitting in my pantry.
The good news is that on this very same day, I was invited to lunch with my little mysterious stranger again. Just like our last date we decided on Chinese! This time I brought my camera so that you can see how cute he is.

This last one I couldn't resist. It was time to leave and he didn't want our lunch to end.....

And there's more good news! After lunch we went to our favorite thrift store and grandma found herself a Mr. Coffee for $4.00 !

I took it home cleaned it up and he makes a fine cup of Joe.
The bad news is that very same evening I acquired a major sweet tooth. This wouldn't have been so bad except that the baker (Katie) of the house was out at church camp helping with the refurbishing of the mess hall.

I was pretty desperate for something sweet so.....

I baked ! I knew you wouldn't believe me so I took a photo. I haven't baked since October! Katie has turned out to be a great cook and baker so I let her do it all!!! I also used my brand new measuring spoons.

The bad news is that I had a huge mess to clean up after.
The good news is, I still remember how to bake!

Isn't it funny how everyday is filled with a little bad and a little good?
I love this verse from the book of Luke 3:4-6

As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,
The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his path straight.

Every valley shall be filled,
and every mountain and hill shall be made low,
and the crooked shall become straight,
and the rough places shall become level ways,
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

This just makes me feel that all of the bad news and bad times will someday be gone and all will be good!

It puts a smile on my face and in my heart!

HI DI - I love this post with the good and bad of it all. Such is life, huh? And the pictures of your mystery date are so precious. I loved ALL your pictures. Now, about your High blood pressure medications. You don't have insurance thru Jake's work for prescriptions? And if you don't there are many low cost prescription drug plans available. k? I got very nervous thinking you mightnot have your medications. Phew.
Okay, so, let's have some of those yummy cookies., :-)
Love to you
Gail

Hi Gail,
Yes we do have insurance and prescription coverage but it's the new year and I have to cover my deductible. I don't want to switch my medication as it took years to find one that worked well for me. So after I pay full price for this one I'll be good again and just have to pay the co-pay! Unfortunately my meds are the expensive ones. Love Di ♥

Good bad good bad good bad is better than all bad. Loved the theme you had going on in the post, Di. It's good that most of the bads turned around for you. Hope Jake arrives home and gets to rest up this weekend, after first eating some of those cookies you baked, meanwhile you sure do hang out with an awfully cute guy.

You have had a run of back luck. It seems everything always happens together like that. At least you got things back up in working order - well all except your poor hubby. I can't imagine trying to drive in that much pain. Thank goodness it wasn't something more serious, but it still isn't much fun having pain. I hope he is in working order real soon too. Your lunch date is sooo sweet. I would like to scoop him up and give that cutie some grandma hugs and kisses.

I'm hurting hard for Jake. Since the most recent pain of my shingles, I seem to feel everyone's pain - or at least have a lot more sympathy for them....

You've really had some bad stuff going on, lady! Glad to see that you're choosing to be better instead of bitter.

Glad you had a fun dinner with the mysterious stranger. (He looks like he could keep a person entertained for quite awhile!)

Hi Di, Again and again, you inspire me. I've had a crappy day today and after reading your blog, I will do my best to look for some good news. I know it's not just going to jump out at me. I need to make it happen so thanks for reminding me.

Hugs
Terrie

I feel so bad for him. My hubby had to work and drive for about a month with bursitis in his shoulder after a nasty fall.

Good news....I am flying out on Saturday morning to Atlanta to spend the next 10 days on the road with Brian. I haven't seen him since New Years!!!

Oh the life of a truckdriver and his wife....

Love this post my friend, what a healthy warm attitude you have through the good and the bad. Hope Jake gets home tomorrow, just being home with you will make him feel better.
Try putting a pot of vinegar and water through your coffee maker, it just may work......:-)Hugs

Does Jake know you're seeing this (cute) mysterious stranger? I hope you saved some cookies for when Jake returns - I heard they're good for boo-boos. Don't think about the bracelet for a week and suddenly, I bet you'll "remember" where it is. Have a GOOD weekend, Di.

Hi Di!

I loved your post and I also love that verse from the book of Luke...
It's the same as Isaiah 40:4
"Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill made low, the crooked straight, and the rough places plain"
(This just got me singing... Messiah...
Can we have Christmas again?? :))

Take good care of yourself... XXX

A very cute date indeed, and the look on his goodbye face is definitely a heart breaker!

Still wincing thinking about your poor husband. Ouch that sounds painful.

Isn't it great that hubby works for a progressive company that puts its employee's health first? Anyway, enjoy your cookies and coffee.

Good news/bad news in every day is so right. I think we often get focused on the bad news and just stay there, wallowing in it so that we don't see the good. I'm glad you found the good news, Di.

I hope Jake is over the discomfort and back to his routine soon. That wounds just awful! Men don't like to admit pain, so you know he is miserable. Give him a hug and have he give one back from me.

Hi...I have totally enjoyed reading your posts. My husband (eriksrantz)has been following you for a while, and I've kind of kept up. Actually, it was reading your posts that made me decide to start my own blog. I think the first thing that I connected with (first glance) was that you liked the movie "Inside Daisy Clover"...one of my top 10 movies without a doubt. I'm still trying to figure out how to put pictures and stuff on my blog. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi. Take care and God bless!

Oh, I hope your husband feels much better very soon. I am sure the pain must have been terrible. Falling on the ice is so easy to do and takes so long to get over.

The sad face at the end of lunch is a riot! Love it!

What a great post. ;)

Hugs,
Lois

Life can be like that--full of ups and downs--but fortunately I think for most of us it seems to balance out.

I also recommend running a pot of vinegar thru the coffee maker to dissolve the mineral build up (it's recommended in the coffee maker instructions). Do this every few months (depending how often you use your coffee maker) and it should keep running pretty good for a long time. Just remember to run a couple pots of water thru after the vinegar so you don't end up with nasty tasting coffee.

Hi All!
I thank you for the vinegar advice with the coffee pot but unfortunately I already knew that and it's not the problem. The pumper just stopped a pumpin'!!!
This coffee pot was so awesome that it would tell me when to clean it, yeah it was that cool! :(
But thanks anyway! Love Di ♥

Are you sure you're not bi-polar?? Just kidding but those ups and downs were pretty dramatic. I'm so glad they cancelled each other out.

Hi, Diana~ Your cliffhangers really show us that we can always trust in God. No matter what happens. No matter if something is lost: we can pray to St. Anthony. Things have a way of working out. Thanks for this uplifting post (well-written, as always)and God bless, me ♥

You make me laugh. Good post, Hubby will survive, the fridge will survive, you can toss the coffee machine, there is hope for the bracelet and your little friend loves being with you. You go girl. Geoff.
By the way you would probably be better off if you followed me on "Geoff's blogs" rather than "saving the world 1 meter at a time." I'm having a problem getting the latter off the ground(legal and technical)
