" No Superbowl Here "

After being home all week for Katie's surgery, my husband finally had to leave this morning. If he had been home we would have the game on but I'm just not that into it.

I am so grateful that he was here this week as it turned out to be a very long and very stress filled week. As most of you know, Katie came through the surgery fine but we quickly discovered that anesthesia makes Katie very cranky!

We came home from the hospital seven hours later and she did a lot of sleeping. The next day however she had a severe migraine. Talk about feeling helpless and worried to no end. This is when I was grateful that my husband was home to help out. The pain meds did nothing for her. Friday morning we had to take her to get the packing removed from her sinuses while she still had a migraine.

The nurses seemed to think this was normal and said that it would fade. Poor kid, all she could do was lay in her room in the dark with a cool cloth over her head. I had to from time to time, make her eat a little as she had no appetite for almost four days.

I fixed her light foods. Applesauce, toast, soup and the like. I told her that not eating wouldn't help the headache! Finally by Saturday morning her headache faded to just an average headache. She still has it, but she is much, much better.

Jake and I were so worried Friday night that we didn't get much sleep. He did some research that gave us a little relief. He found out that if you suffered previous to the sinus surgery with headaches (which she did) that you would likely have a bad headache after the surgery.

I knew this morning that she felt so much better when she woke up and said that she wanted to practice driving today as there is an approaching snowstorm! So as tired as I was, I let her drive to the cable company so that we could drop off our payment. That made her happy and she looked much better.

I did almost have a small heart attack when she took the turn onto the road where the cable company was, very, very fast. She did this on purpose to scare me! And it worked!
I then told her that if she did that again she will never drive my car again. I did suggest however that if she did want to do that again, to make sure it was when dad takes her driving!

After that we drove to the market to pick up a few staples just like everyone else in town was doing! I was doing the driving through town. She's not ready for that much traffic yet. Walking around in the store was making her feel lousy again, so we made it quick so that we could get back home and she could lay down.

We aren't too sure about school tomorrow. I told her to wait and see how she felt then. And she could go for awhile and come home if it was too much for her. But she is most definitely improving each day.

Jake is in North Carolina tonight and he and I are both totally and completely exhaustively tired!! But after seeing how Katie was today, I know that we will both sleep much better tonight!

Enjoy the game!

I am not watching the Super Bowl either, though my Husband has it on. I'm writing to you instead! I hope that the smiling picture of Katie is after her surgery - she looks happy and well (not at all grouchy...). I would assume she would have a headache after sinus surgery, but I hope it is much, much better by tomorrow. Hope you aren't snowed in - maybe school will be canceled! Get some rest.

Hi Barb,
The photo is an older one of Katie, I wouldn't want to ask her for a photo today, she's just starting to get in a good mood again! I don't mind a good snow day and it would give Katie an extra day of rest. I am going to bed early!!! Love Di

Hi Diana, I've been away a long time and haven't been keeping track of the blogs lately but I'm glad to hear the Katie is on the mend. I know from my husband having had similar surgery, it's a slow and painful recovery. Best of luck to her. And best of luck to you for having so much patience with her driving. I don't think I ever drove with my kids. I made Brent to the dirty work.
Hugs to you
Terrie

I'm glad that is behind her. I used to work for an ENT, and I've seen many people after that kind of surgery. It is definitely not fun!!

Tell her I'm hoping for a snow day, just for her!

The Saints won the Super Bowl, it was close until the last quarter but my Curling team won.
Stay warm my friend.....:-) Hugs

Hi Terrie,
I knew that you were away and was enjoying reading about your adventures! Oh and the driving thing, it does make me very nervous but I don't have a choice. I can say that she is improving but I am still clutching the door handle and keeping my hand by the emergency brake!

Hi Lynilu,
My husband has had sinus surgery three times. It is a miserable recovery, Katie is handling it fairly well and no swelling anymore so that is great! She said she could breath a little last night but it will take time. Love Di

HI DIANA-

I love how you and Jake worry and care about Katie and all things in your lives, together. Warms my heart. I am so glad Katie is better.

We are not Super Bowl watchers although we watched half-time and the "WHO" were fantastic.

Have a wonderful day

Love you my friend
Gail

Good to hear that Katie is much better but sad to hear that what is supposed to help with headaches gave her a rip snorting headache! I have thought about getting my sinuses scrapped ( have had a chronic sinus infection fro years that causes me regular but not horrible headaches)but that super bad headache is scary.

Now let us hear that our Di is finally rested and more relaxed!

blessings and comforting hugs,

marcy

It must have been awful watching her in such pain!

Re. the game. I've been kind of disturbed by all the "hoopla" and attention paid to this game. (It didn't help that I'm surrounded by VERY serious Colt fans.) Don't get me wrong...I enjoy a good game now and then, but in the grand scheme of things, I'm just not into it that much myself. I DO enjoy having friends over, though, and we DID have a good time. My night wasn't ruined by the outcome of the game. (My sleep however WAS ruined by the amount and type of food I ate though!)

Glad you were able to get some rest. As for the Superbowl, we watched it off and on.... the Sound of Music was on & that is by far my favorite movie.

Hi Gail,

Oh Marcy I am feeling sooo much more relaxed and rested. Katie is back to her chatty self and it warms my heart!
I hope that you don't have to get your sinuses scrapped. After seeing what Jake and Katie had to endure, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Hi Rebecca,
I would have watched the game if we had friends or family over, it's always more fun then! But I'm really not a big football fan. I am glad that you had a good time.
It was a horribly helpless feeling with Katie. I was crying and couldn't sleep, just prayed and prayed and wished it were me and not her. But right now you would never know that anything even happened!!!
