"So, I'm Here, Sort Of."

I've been so lazy since I've had this surgery. Lazy, lazy, lazy.
Haven't felt like reading books or blogs. I did find a Word Search puzzle game on line that I liked. I love word searches and have been doing quite a few of those.

I cheated for Katie whenever she would bring word search's home for homework. She hated to do them so I would do them for her. She say's she was never any good at them, probably because I did them for her, oh well. I'm sorry to all those teachers that sent them home with her. But it is what it is and she always got an "A" for them.

How about that Green Bay- Seattle game last night? I think that Ref strike needs to be settled. That was crazy stupid! The Packers won that game, I don't care what the Refs called. Not a big football fan but I do watch with my husband when the Packers play. He's a big Packers fan. I like Dance Mom's.

So I discovered these past few days that it is possible to do dishes one handed!! Don't freak out, I just got really bored and wanted a challenge. Jake was hovering over me all P.O.ed because I was even attempting it. The hardest part is washing the silverware. But I discovered that if you put a soapy, wet dishrag across the sink, you can wipe the silverware on that. Mind you this all takes a long time with one hand but it can be done damn it!!!!

I was able to go to church Sunday and my husband actually came with me, will miracles never cease? Pastor talked about our Baptism's and how we as Lutherans consider it a sacrament.
Later after service Jake and I talked about our own Baptismal experiences. Well mostly his as I was a baby and don't remember that day.

That same afternoon Jake and I went to my son's house for a B.B.Q. It seems so different now that he is separated but he cooked us a great meal and we had a good time with the grandkids.
It was a GOOD day. I just want my son to be happy.
That's what I pray for.

I've been able to use my right hand pretty darn well. I just can't get it wet because of the stitches. I get the bandaging off tomorrow and then the stitches should come out next week sometime, not sure on that yet. This whole experience brought back a memory from the fourth grade for me. I was living in Chicago and it was a typical cold winter day. I remember looking out the window to see if the sidewalks were clear enough for me to walk to school without wearing my boots. The sidewalk just looked wet so I wore my street shoes. That's what we called them back then.

As I started my walk to school that day I realized that the sidewalks were covered in ice. So being that I only had my slippery leather shoes on, I walked more cautiously. There was a group of older girls walking behind me and I remember over hearing them say something to the effect that there was no such thing as Santa Claus.

I guess that statement erased my caution as I slipped and fell hard on the ice. Those same girls saw what happened and helped me walk the rest of the way to school and took me inside to the office. There was a very cranky secretary inside that kept telling me that I was being a big baby because I was crying while telling her that I broke my arm. I couldn't understand why she would not believe me.

Several hours later and a trip to Chicago Children's Memorial hospital confirmed the fact that I had a compound fracture of my upper right arm. I don't know what that bone is called but it was broken in half and nearly sticking through my skin.

I had to wear a cast that went completely around my arm and chest for several months. Needless to say it was then that I learned to use my left hand so well. I can even write with it. So now you know why  it hasn't been so bad for me not being able to use the right hand completely.

I am going to have Thanksgiving dinner this year. My son will be here and I do believe that my oldest daughter from N.C. will be coming up as well. I plan on making this a very special Thanksgiving as our family has been through a great deal this past year and we have a lot to be Thankful for.

I'm going to try and schedule my left hand Carpel Tunnel surgery for the last week of October. If the doctor will let me. He said we could set that up tomorrow. This way I should be all healed and good to go before the Holidays. Although my husband is a great cook and always helps me with the food anyway, I'd still like to be able to give it my all if you know what I mean.

I'm really hoping that we'll be able to have our grandchildren here as well but I don't know if that will happen as of yet. I will talk to my D.I.L. about it and see what she says. We are still talking, she's been like a daughter to me for 17 years. That just doesn't go away.

I've been around a little here and there to visit everyone's blogs. If I haven't gotten to you yet please don't take it personally. I just follow so many and have been tired lately. Next week my husband will go back to work from his vacation and I will have more time and hopefully more energy by then. Thanks for stopping by!

Oh my I am number one commenter...that rarely happens :) I grimaced when you told about your broken arm..Holy cow. I do hope the school secretary apologized to you. On being lazy...when we have to be lazy because of illness etc...it is a bummer, but when we have to squeeze in some lazy time it feels good. Just saying. LOL Thanksgiving will be here before we can say gobble gobble ten times. I hope your hands are totally healed by then and that you have the best Thanksgiving ever. You have had a lot of unpleasant stuff going on this year. It was good that your husband got to go to church with you...My Frank does not attend very often because of his morning meds making him loopy. I love sitting with him when he does go...it is a great feeling. Take care..I hope you can find something to kill of the laziness. :)

I hug and love you,

I'm looking forward to the holidays too, Di. So many changes, (both happy and sad) have occurred in our families over the years we've been blogging together. My grandson was in Illinois last night for one of his college soccer games...I thought of you.

That will be wonderful when you can get everything done and put it behind you. In the meantime relax, rest and enjoy being incapacitated lol
You are entitled.

Hi! Much success with that carpal tunnel surgery coming in Oct.
I know it must be a job using one hand. Thanksgiving will be here before you know it won't it.
Time does fly.

No Santa and a broken arm in one day - how traumatizing! All these years later, I think you deserve to rest a little after that devastating experience. I'm in a hotel in Moab, UT, tonight. It's been fun visiting with you Diana. I'm biking through Arches tomorrow with Bob.

Ever hear of paper plates and throw away cutlery?? You deserve a break, Di.

Oh my goodness Di, I guess I haven't read your blog for a little while, I have been a slacker, even posting myself. FB is so much easier for me but I love blogs they are so much more personal. I am so glad you are feeling better. I told my husband about your double knee replacement and he is soooo not wanting to do just one knee. The doctor told him that anyone he has ever seen with his knee is usually in a wheel chair! He is so dam stubborn! I keep telling him how well you have done and he NEEDS to stop being a baby and do it! But there is always one more job he needs to do to make some EXTRA money for us. It sucks being poor! YOU GO GIRLFRIEND! I am so happy you are doing so well! It is time to pick up those crochet hooks again! hugs....

Well, you're getting to be quite a busy little beaver! Sounds like your brain is working overtime - planning Thanksgiving already! (Me? I'm just glad to make it from morning to evening!)

I hope all your holiday plans come to pass. Glad Ginnie can make it and sure hope something can work out with the grandkids, etc.

That's really funny about you doing Katie's word searches for her.

Hey, I agree with someone above who asked if you've ever heard of paper plates!

OK. That's all I have to say. Take your time & save your energy for when Hubby is no longer home and you HAVE to do stuff yourself :)

NOTE TO ALL: We do use paper plates but still have pots and pans and silverware to wash. Disposable pots would be great!!!
Love Di ♥

Oh you are a star finding how to do one-handed dish washing - I would totally use it as an excuse. Get better soon and rest up!

Hi Diana! Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog. Also, thanks for the condolences, I will pass them along to my brother. You are doing a great job after carpal tunnel surgery! Congrats to you, but remember to now overuse your wrist. Give it a good chance to heal properly. I am following you now, so I will be stopping by frequently! Have a good (restful) weekend!

Hopefully you will be able to see your grandchildren for the holiday and I'm sure you will have a wonderful meal and so much love and blessings. My MIL still talks to me and it is nice that we can still have a decent conversation even though I divorced her son. Our conversations usually revolve around my children. I respect her so much for not just writing me off because of the divorce. Your grandkids will see that too. I love hearing from you. Hope you are having a blessed day.

I think that is great you are having thanksgiving at your home, what a great time it will be for you all.
We have a small family so it will most likely be like we do most every year since moving to this apartment community, we do it with the residents and it's fun.

Just plain happy to be reading you again Diana, after such a long time! A lot of ups and downs for sure. I hope all of you, including your grandchildren, son and DIL get together for Thanksgiving. In a jiffy, the year is nearing the end! Shaking my head is disbelief!

Good morning Diana !
I think that the girls who helped you discovered who the "real" Santa is! It's all about the love!

I'm glad you are recovering well from your surgery... We appreciate our hands and feet so much more even when there's the slighted problem... But surgery is a whole different level of appreciation!
I thought for sure I'd need surgery for carpal tunnel... My mother had it pretty badly and my hands ( especially my right) would ache and tingle all the way up toward my shoulder... The pain would wake me during the night. A friend of mine recommended this simple kind of arm band... It's a black Velcro band that you wrap around your arm about half way up. It's for tennis elbow, but really helps with carpal tunnel probs.
it works great .,. I always wear it preventatively and sometimes, when I really "abuse" myself (like with shrub and tree trimming) I need to wear it for a day or two afterward.
People have such relief after the surgery though...
Good for you for taking care of yourself, Diana!
God bless you always,
- Maria
Ps. My kids were so upset over the Packers loss! I'm glad they solved it!

So great that you're becoming more "handy," so to speak. That says "recovery."

So sorry to hear about Frank and Amy. And of your broken humerus (that's what the bone is called.) YOur arm healed. I hope Frank and Amy can, too.

Hello Di.
This is so weird, you are the forth person I know of who has undergone Carpel Tunnel Syndrome surgery in the last two weeks. I had never even heard of it before.
Sorry to hear about the break up, never cool for a family to fall apart.
Here's wishing you a fantastic Thanks Giving, with blessings, Geoff.

Why does it NOT shock me that you are doing dishes just after having hand surgery?! You are too much! I have missed so much here, Di, and I keep promising myself that I am going to catch up here, but I never seem to do it. I almost wish I still had insomnia so I could stay up reading you until all hours of the night (or morning, whatever the case may be), but I have to say I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow lately, and I sleep soundly all night long. I just feel so bone-tired lately.
My son's girlfriend has gone to California (she needed a break???!!!), so I've had Baby Ray too (he's here a lot anyway, but now he's being dropped off at 5:30 in the morning, thank goodness for my daughter Ellie, she gets up early and gives me time to shower and dress). They are both good babies, but I'm still tired anyway!

I haven't been blogging much which makes me sad, and I've been visiting even less, which makes me more sad. I try to get onto Facebook each day, but that is mostly quick visits and it's very different from the blog world, but it's nice to see what everyone is up to.

I hope your Thanksgiving plans work out, and I think it's nice that you still have a relationship with your daughter-in-law, I know you always spoke so fondly of her. And I think it's important for your grandkids too.
When you mentioned Thanksgiving it reminded me of my friend Barbara telling me that she always did paper plates (well, not paper but plastic I think) for Thanksgiving, and plastic utensils and a paper tablecloth, and then after dinner she would just wrap everything up in the tablecloth and throw it out in the trash! I think this year if I cook for just my family I might do that very same thing! Easy-peasy!

Take care, Di.
I can't tell you how often I think of you. So many little things will bring you to mind (if I'm out shopping and see yarn, or when I'm doing housework I try to 'channel a little Di energy', or [now don't take this the wrong way] if Ray and I are having a beer ~ I often think how nice it would be to sit and have a beer with you!).

Take care of yourself, Di.
Love and Prayers,
Eileen
