" Shame On You ABC "

O.K. so we all know that I'm not the most intelligent woman in the world, thank God for spell-check! And I don't really like to discuss politics or religion on my Blog although I have never kept the fact that I am a Christian a secret.

I swear. Curse. I always have. I swear more than my husband or most truckers for that matter. I am trying my best to tone it down but it's sometimes difficult to get rid of lifelong habits. As a matter of fact I am going to put some bad words in this post so if you are at all bothered by this, look away.
Now.

I have been a bitch at times in my life. I have also come across a few, well more than a few, bitches and bastards in my life. With that said I can honestly tell you that as I age and mature
(Yes I am still maturing) I have been trying really, really hard to become a better Christian.

The more that I read the Bible, the more inner peace I feel.
It's that simple. I'm pretty simple, although my husband may disagree with this statement. With this being said,
I , the woman who tries to avoid controversy on her blog, Have something to say.

I am very disappointed in the title of the new television show   on ABC called "GCB". If you haven't heard of this show because you don't watch as much television as I do because you are more intelligent than I am, "GCB" stands for,
Good Christian Bitches.

I just have to say that I am very disappointed in you ABC.
I believe in freedom of religion. I believe that you can curse if you want when needed. Remember, I'm trying hard to work on this bad habit. I'm not perfect and God knows it.

But, and here it comes, I feel insulted by the title of this show for several reasons. Correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't ABC a parent company of Disney? Or vice versa. Doesn't this mean that they are supposedly a "Family" network?

Isn't the majority of North America Christian? And I'm not sure on this one but I'm guessing that there are a lot of women in their viewing audience. Am I the only one that feels insulted here?  I know, I know, it's all in good fun right?

But it bothers me. It bothers me so much that I will not watch this new show. I won't even give it a try. And I wonder why they haven't developed a show entitled,
"Great Atheist Assholes".

I wonder how that would go over. Or how about,
"Wonderful Muslim Bastards"? Do you think that Atheists or Muslims would stand still for that?

I don't think so.

ABC, what the hell were you thinking?

I hadn't heard about this show, so I googled and read a bit. Definitely not a show I'd watch, in all likelihood. But, as for your point .... I essentially agree. IMO, it is a trend that is way too prevalent, the trend of mocking good things, anywhere, everywhere, anytime, just because. Period. I don't care whether the "sponsor" is Disney or Hefner. I'm weary of the put down, the bullying, the ridiculing, etc., etc., etc.(echoing the late great Yul)

I think my indignation is a slightly different focus than yours, but regardless ....

Thank you Lyn for your comment. Pushing the envelope a little too far for me. I'm not a prude but lets have a little respect for each other.
Referring to women as bitches in any form, especially on a major network just seems to be defeating the purpose of a loving and caring world. Not to mention poking fun at ones religious beliefs. I am very disappointed with ABC.
Love Di ♥

I hadn't heard of this show either. I don't watch a lot of TV (mostly because my dear husband drives me batty with changing the channel every five seconds!) But, I know I wouldn't watch this.

I am offended too, as I often am, by the garbage on TV and the language and stupid commercials. I really wonder what on earth is available for families to watch with their kids anymore.

(I'm a christian, too, and have been known to use inappropriate language a bit too often! But, it's one thing among family and friends, quite another on prime time TV!)

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now! :)

That was explosive! Though I know nothing about the show, one thing I do know is that the title is downright offensive. Religion is always a sensitive topic and giving a show this title is a very cheap way of grabbing eyeballs.

Hope you're taking care of yourself Diana! Love you loads

I wonder who, at ABC, thought this would be a good title for a program. Sorry, that kind of stereotyping (and it certainly seems like stereotyping) is hardly in the context of what might pass as Christian. For anyone.

Which is why, I think, more and more people are finding television to be a wasteland.

R U Serious?!?! I hadn't heard of it until you posted.

And I'm right WITH you on proposing equal time for G.A.A. and W.M.B.!

I can't believe this one will actually make it to the "light of day"!

now we know why I no longer have a TV connection...I didn't want to have to deal with CR*P like GCB! thank you Diana for reaffirming that I made the right decision!

Oh, I'm a firm believer that there is a war on Religion, and most especially a war on Christianity.

The elitist look down on us and think us SO RIDICULOUS for "clinging" to our religion. Well, look your nose down on me all you want ~ this I know for fact ~ GOD IS TRUTH!

Wonderful post, Di!

Love and Prayers,
Eileen

Hi Di, I haven't heard of this show until I saw your commment on the Facebook this morning. I went to ABC's site and saw the prevue, and I can't believe someone decided this would be a good show. Of course some nitwit this side of the 49th will think it is a good show and one of our Canadian Networks will also be airing it.

I won't be watching this show as most of my viewing doesn't center around show like this. It is the Discovery, or Nat'l Geographic channel, or any channel that is airing a Leafs Game that I tune into. I also watch the Nostalgia Channels that air the old shows. I sometimes tune into the Game Show Channel and watch some of the Game Shows. I will admit I am a big fan of The Big Bang Theory and don't miss it.

As you know Di, I also profess to be a Christian as well, and will find myself Cussing and Swearing at random, usually because of some driver. I still like to have my Cold Beer or drink of rum and have been known to laugh at a joke that should't have been spoken. But as one of God's Children I know God does forgive us when we don't think we should be.

Hope you are doing well, sorry that I haven't been by lately, but I do come visit and think of you. I am so glad that your surgery went so well,

Take care my friend.

Bill

Well, you are going to have to have the TV taken out - think of all the peace and quiet! Think of all the books you'll read! You'll get piles of knitting done. As you know, I don't watch any TV in the city - pretty nice. My son was ranting about something on the news this morning when he took me to breakfast. I said sweetly, "I don't have TV remember?" So, he changed the subject.

Hm, it's interesting to hear your perspective on this. Myself - and this is judging 100% exclusively from the title knowing nothing about the show - I wouldn't take it personally. There are a lot of people who are both christians and bitches - just like absolutely there are people who are both atheists and assholes and muslims who are bastards and jains who are jerks and buddists who are butt wipes - and that this show is about them specifically. Not about christians in general and I wouldn't interpret the title as referring to any group in general. As far as the disney family thing goes eh. I'm personally not interested in corporations being faithfully family friendly or what have you. There's lots of disney stuff I'd never let a kid of mine see anyway.

First they pushed the envelope open with desperate housewives, just to see how far they could go. I wrote my local ABC manager at the time, who professes to be a Christian. Didn't do a bit of good as he wrote back and said they didn't always have a choice in what the powers that be decided on the national level.

No now we have this new show which is competing with the desperate housewives show according to advertising. Is it any wonder the Muslims consider Americans infidels?

I won't be watching it. If every Christian would write abc to keep that "crap" off prime time on Sunday evening, I wonder if they would listen. I didn't think desperate housewives could get any worse, but looks like I'll be wrong.

Even the bachelor and bacherlorette are now spending a night together in a special suite offered them by the host.

It's just better to turn it off and read or watch a good movie that we choose.

I love it! Good for you Di on speaking out about this. How do we get on your bandwagon?

Wow, Diana! That is just awful!
I just can't believe what has become of society! What is happening to our youth... people wonder why some kids are so disrespectful ...
When TV is raising half the population... is it a wonder!?!

Well, you are not alone, Diana!
I'm glad we have our blogs; they have become my visual entertainment and I've found many friendly people here!
God bless you,
always,
Maria

Diana, I have seen the advertisments and it is taking over for the Desperate Housewives hows that is going off the air but I NEVER knew that that is what it meant! Every other commercial is promoting this new show, and I thought it might be funny but now...nope I am not even going to watch it! That is horrible and degrading and such a slap in the face, I also feel personally asualted. WOW! and you know what...it will probably be a huge hit, because.... that is what this world of television is coming to. It is getting so hard to find a good funny comedy....CAROL BURNETT WHERE ARE YOU? ANDY WILLIAMS...PERRY COMO....WHERE ARE YOU???? I think I will be doing a lot of walking and bike riding and less tv.

Like many other people,we truly Christian Women identify ourselves with the body of our Lord and Savior; not the name portrayed on ABC as a female dog. we would not go out and disrespect people, on the contrary our behavior is enough witness. Why ABC do you disrespect a vast majority with making such portraying when we women of our GOD do not dare to bring shame on the grounds of gaining fame. Besides what is worth for a person to gain the fame of the world and loose their soul? Be careful,mm

I hadn't heard about this. That is insulting and disrespectful as well. Shocking that they approve of putting such a title on a show. Wow.
And there is such garbage on tv now, it's a shame. I have to constantly monitor what my kids watch. The worst shows are primetime, it's not even cable anymore. And not for nothing, they air the show Friends on the network Nickelodeon. Um, that show is fine for adults, but Friends has sexual content to it. Why is it airing on a kids network during the evenings?
I was channel surfing and I found a scene where two of the characters were in bed, and this is airing on a kids network.

Well said! I agree with you; I was intrigued the first time I heard of this show, but this show goes too far. Yes -- there are many people who consider and call themselves Christians who act like this. I call them church goers. Christians need to be portrayed as what we all through Christ strive to be -- more like Him even though we mess up and we fail. People need to at least hear what our role-model REALLY stands for.
I will not watch this show.
