" The Bug That Wouldn't Die!"

Well at least that's what it feels like. The Bug That Wouldn't Die!
While Jake and I are both feeling better, we are both still feeling sick, if you know what I mean?

But it was back to work for him Monday morning. Poor guy. I know how run down he is feeling. We both lost our voices. They are coming back gradually.

Katie, our teen, quarantined herself to her room the entire time we were home sick. Can't say as I blame her for her paranoia. She missed a lot of school this past February from a surgery she had to have. That really set her back. Made it hard for her to catch up in school.

My husband Jake and I were thinking and talking about the fact that we had never been sick together before. Not in 21 years.

Usually one or all of the kids would fall sick first. Then as they would start to feel better, my husband would fall sick. And when he falls sick, he always, always falls hard.

I on the other hand rarely get sick. I honestly believe in my heart of hearts that God made mom's special that way. And even when I have felt sick in the past, I have almost always managed to work through it. I didn't always have much of a choice. My husband is gone most of the month so no matter how I would feel I would have to take care of the children.

Then there were those times when I would nurse the children back to health only to have to turn around and nurse my husband back to health.

The kids would be back off to school, my husband would be back over the road and than BAM, I would get sick and be all by myself. Now that can be depressing!

But that's what good mom's and wife's go through, right? Fortunately as I said before, I have been for the most part, immune to falling ill from my families various bugs through the years.

But this time My husband Jake and I shared. We always share. We share food, desserts and even clothes. Well he has shared his with me. Mine would never fit him and he would look rather silly as I prefer flowered prints above anything else. But he on the other hand, has put his big size 11 socks on my feet when they've been cold. He has given me his big tee shirts to put on when I was too lazy and hot to go upstairs to change. And he has given me his cozy flannel shirts when I have felt a chill. We have shared secrets. Money. Jokes. And each other.

Yes we have shared many things over the years but this was the first time we shared a bug. The worst part about sharing a bug together is that neither one of you feels like doing anything. And unfortunately, I let the maid go several years ago as she just wasn't fulfilling my expectations!

We managed through it all to take care of each other. This was a nice change for me as I am usually alone when sick and my husband was really great. I know he felt as bad as I did but he still managed to do most of the little chores. He walked the dogs, most of the time, until Katie came home. I still managed to cook as much as I could. I kept craving soup but all we had was canned.

We had nothing in the house to make soup with and neither one of us wanted to go to the store. Four more months and Katie will have her license. That will come in handy.

We each had our own antibiotics and inhalers but we shared the nebulizer! Well not at the same time but you know what I mean!

Being that sick is really awful. You must know of that helpless feeling that I am talking about. It seems as though nothing makes you feel better and the time just seems to creep by. We would try to sleep but sleep was hard to come by. All we could do is stare into each others bloodshot eyes, knowingly as the clock ticked by.

So here we are exactly one week and two days later and we still aren't back to our old rootin' tootin' selves! But we are trying. We are working on it. Three boxes of tissues and four cases of water later, we are starting to feel better. Together.

As ill as you have been, don't rush yourself back to full activity. You're going to be a little weak for a little while, and you'll only prolong it if you don't allow healing. There will always be time to do "stuff" later!

I'm glad you are feeling better, though. Every little bitty step, right?

Thanks Lyn. I haven't had much of a choice. This was bad, bad stuff. I have been taking it VERY easy. I did work at church for awhile today but thats it. Didn't even make dinner much to Katie's dismay!LOL!

UGH! I hate getting sick. If the kids get it, I get it. My DH NEVER gets it. Drives me crazy.

Feel better soon but enjoy the "down" time too.

Thanks Krista! But I am also sick of sitting here. Don't have much of a choice. Breathing is an effort to be sure! Stay Healthy!

I wonder what the 'bug' was and where you picked it up...maybe somewhere along the way on the day trip you took. At least you had each others company. Hope you get the ingredients for the homemade soup soon! Take extra care and time to get well, Di!

Hi Wanda,
I think you hit the nail on the head. Jake and I figured with a 7 to 10 day incubation period, well the last time we were together was on our day trip! My aren't you astute! I did end up making ham and navy bean soup. One of my favorites. My dad was a cook for the Sea Bee's. Thats where I learned how to make it! Unfortunately no one else in the family likes bean soup! Too bad!! More for me!

Hubby and I never get sick at the same time either. Good thing as he is not the kind of guy to is a good patient. Neither of I. I whine and he just does not want to stay down long enough to take care of himself. I hope you and your hubby get to feeling better.

Oh Diana, this is just a sad sad post from you! I could imagine how you'd hurdle the situation being sick both and together at the same time.

My hubby is also sick at the moment, and tis' really so hard. Thank God I am not sick but feeling like getting the bug too!

Thing is, if hubby gets sick, he's like a baby. Well, I do the same, like i want to be pampered with every single demands I meant to have!

Dear Di, get well soon! That is life and it's really hard! Especially when we are all alone. When you said you are always alone when you catch the bug, I feel so sad for you! I'd dread that situation very often coz I also suffer the same!

Get well soon my dear! Hugs!!! :)

Hi Bernie,
I don't know what it was Bernie. The doctor just said it was a lung infection but a bad one. We both picked it up somewhere. I am feeling much better today!

HI DIANA-

I si love how you are healing together. In fact, I think it would have been way worse had you been "fighting this alone", either of you. I feel the strength of your love as it mirrors ours.

Keep getting better.

Love to you always my friend
Gail
peace and hope....

I'm glad you felt good enough to let us know what you've been through and are still going through. Hopefully, this is a sign that you are indeed on the road back to health!

Hello Dianna, and thankyou for visiting my blog. There is nothing worse than being sick, and having sick people to care for at the same time. Mothers do seem to have special abilities to keep on going when we need to.

Jake sounds so sweet, and it is nice that you can share everything like you do. The Bug, not so much, but it seems you are now both on the mend. It sounds like it was a terrible bug too. Hope Katie does not get it.

Now, all you need to do is to get your energy back. Take care of yourself, eat good food, and do something different this week.

Simone

Hi Simone, I really like your blog. I like the way you write! I have been doing something different. I started crocheting again. Something I haven't done in many months! Love Di ♥

Hi Lyn, Yes I did get your email.Thank you! I haven't worried too much about the eggs as we rarely eat them. I do like them I just don't eat them much anymore. Katie will cook them every now and then.

Well I am so sorry you and your hubby have been so sick. I think you are right, that somehow mothers seem to work through sickness for the kids and hubby.

I'm so glad you could at least laugh and joke, and I could just see you in his size 11 socks and tee shirts.

I hope so you will be back to good health. I was thinking, I don't think my dearest had been really sick at the same time.

Hi Di,
I sure hope that BUG is dead! It sounds like a really terrible one. It seems everyone in Blogland has been hit by some kind of bug! Please get completely well soon!

I feel sorry for your hubby having to go back to work and be on the road while he is not feeling 100%. But I guess we all must do what we need to do...right! ((((HUGS))) T

Sometimes recovery is a process that can take a while to get back strength and momentum. I usually stay pretty healthy. At least once a year my wife will pick up a bug from her kindergarten students and then eventually it will get passed to me. Darn kids!

It's good to hear you are on the mend. I rarely ever get sick either. Mom's just can't get sick because the whole household depends on us....

Lay low. Just keep resting. It's OK to not be moving and grooving all day long!

Hope your Labor Day weekend is fun and filled with joyful things.
