" 26 More Days and Counting!"

I surely cannot believe how fast the time is going by. In 26 days, God willing of coarse, I will be in surgery. I feel like I'm going to be the Bionic woman. Truthfully I am so excited.

Yesterday I attended my "Total Joint Education Class". I was the only one there that is having both knees replaced at the same time.
Last year at this time I was to afraid to go through with this surgery but today I am excited. I know how much work will be involved and the pain levels I hear are supposedly pretty high.

But I am still excited as all get out! I learned quite a bit at the class. Although about half of it I read online. Folks I am in for quite a bit of discomfort and probably some depression and possibly a bit of
"I give up" from this surgery.

But all I can keep thinking about is all of the things that I'll be able to do once again that I've been missing out on over the last four years. What really bothers me the most sometimes is that I'm 53 not 83 and I spend more time sitting than moving. But that is going to end soon!

Today I went to my family physician for my wellness check up. He said that I looked good to go but I have to have some more blood drawn and a urine test next week. They did an EKG right there in the office and his nurse, who I've known for several years said to me after the test, "No matter what anyone says Diana, you're normal!".

I told her that I'd let my husband know and thanked her! On my way out my doctor said, "You're in for a rough road.", but I already knew that. Don't care, just want to get it done with.

I've been very busy this week and I don't want to bore anyone to tears so I will cut this short. If I have time tomorrow, I will post some of the details about the surgery, post op and what I have to look forward to once I get home.

It's a lot. But God's right here with me and knows how much fun I've been missing. And by "fun" I mean being able to just get a job and take care of my family!!!

I'd be grateful for that much.

My mother has had 2 knees & a hip replaced. My father 2 replacements on the same knee. Both of them get along fabulously joint-wise! (My mother didn't have both done at once...) I HAVE known a couple of people who had double knees. They did great, too.

Just obey your Drs. and therapists. And give it your best effort - all the therapy, etc. That's what my mother "swore" by!

That is going to be challenging, but you attitude is going to be the biggest factor!

Hugz!

I agree with Rebecca about obeying the Doctors and therapists, do it all! You will be so thankful!

Depression and "give up"? No way... That's what we're all here for... Won't let you get there...
Oh, and you listen to all the wise advise I just read about obeying doctors and therapists...
Lots of love!! XXX

I have 2 friends that had both replaced at the same time and they did fabulously. I have no doubt that you will be just fine. You have that wonderful determination and spirit that will take you through this. When you get down we'll all be here to support and love you. Before you know it this will be a memory and you'll be doing everything your heart desires.
Huggz :-)

I'm hoping that you will feel so great after the surgery, maybe the pain won't be so bad. I hope for you that you will come here and let us all encourage you and help support you through this fabulous journey. Hugs my friend.

Sounds like things are moving ahead, as planned. That is good news. I hope it keeps on being good news.

The comments sound positive, so maybe it won't be quite as bad as you think. I guess if you're prepared for the worst, anything less will be gravy. And if the worst does come, you're prepared!

If anyone can endure the surgery and period of 'recuperation ups and downs' with a smile on their face... it will be you for sure, Di.

I'm glad you're mentally prepared for this. I think sometimes we need to reach the point of *needing* the surgery for quality of life before we can be ready as you are. You're there .... ready to take the leap! I'm excited for you and your future!

First I am so excited for you that it is only 26 days away. Yesterday was one month from my surgeries and I walked with no cane, went shopping with husband. I know you are going to feel so much better. I would imagine your recovery will be a big adjustment with having both knees done at once but just hang in. I know you are going to be doing so much more. I am sending you hugs and wishing you strength during this. hugs dear friend.

God is with you and things will be fine. Rough road, yes. But you will be fine.

Di - I know you will be able to handle both the surgery and the healing. You are a tough cookie - by that I mean determined! You know we'll all be by your bedside in spirit. I'm thinking of you constantly!

Diana,
The surgery probably won't be much fun, but you should feel like a new woman when it's over.
I'm saying a prayer for you.

OH dear Diana, I am so happy for you. Can I say that? Only because you sound so happy! My husband always says "no pain, no gain" have you heard that before? I think if you did one knee and not both you would not do the other so why not go for the gusto! YOU WILL do just FINE. and don't be afraid to get a little help in the pain med dept. too. That is what it is there for. You will have someone there to help you won't you? Is hubby taking a little time off? You will go stir crazy not being able to CLEAN for a while, but just look at the long term! YOU will be able to clean like a crazy woman once you are healed and I think...your recovery will be amazing...because you have already set you mind to a speedy one! GOOD FOR YOU GIRLFRIEND!

I think since you need two, it is best get it over with at one time.I think it is becoming a common thing. I had one knee done years ago and all went well. Make your self a little spot filled with goodies , crafts, puzzles, books, movies, telephone and most important your computer so you can keep in touch with all of us. At least your back to blogging...I am still having a hard time getting back...but I will :)
