" O.K. So I'm Not the Greatest Mother !"

It's my fault, I admit it. Yesterday I took my Katie (16) to the Ear, Nose and Throat doctor once again.

Katie has had allergies, specifically mold, since I can remember. Recently she has been sick on and off . Her ears have been horribly blocked and has had plenty of headaches and migraines to go along with that.

Kate's doctor, who is French Canadian by the way, what is it with us and Canadian doctors? Anyway he cleaned her ears out and REMINDED me that she has exema in her ears!

Oh stupid me!! I forgot. What kind of a mother would forget something like that I ask you? Because of the excess dry skin in her ears, she is supposed to get her ears cleaned every six months at the doctors office.
Anyway she feels so much better now, headaches gone, ears are clearer, still on antibiotics as a precaution. I should have remembered this. Katie had it when she was a baby on her feet. I used to have to bath her little feet in a special soap and use Aquaphor on them.

So now I must remember to take her back in the office in six months.
Did you know that ENT doctors don't advise using Q-tips in your ears. Or cleaning solutions. The Q-tips can actually push excess wax into one's ears. I've actually had bits of cotton removed from my ear from Q-tips but I still use them. Old and stubborn I guess.
Katie doesn't use them at all.

So now that we all know what a crappy mother I am, I decided to do something I rarely do here. I am going to tout a product I have recently discovered.

Besides being an old and crappy mother, I also have had problems with very dry skin. It's getting like old lady skin, all thin, dry and wrinkly. I have been trying all different types of products.

All of the name brand and store brand lotions and creams with all of the same results, it soaks in my skin and then it's dry all over again.

Well last week while looking for the next new miracle cream to try, I came across this...

Yes it's good old fashioned Vaseline but with a new twist. It has Cocoa Butter in it. And it cost around $2.00. So I thought "Why not give it a try". It's a little different from regular Vaseline, not quite as greasy. It also soaks into the skin more as opposed to laying on top.

I started using it on my body and my face. A little bit goes a long way and my skin just loves it.

Now I wouldn't say that I look twenty years younger but I will say that my skin is much, much softer without feeling greasy.

So there you have it, my Vaseline commercial. I would highly recommend this. For the price you can't go wrong.
Oh and it has a nice , very light , cocoa butter scent. My husband and dogs just love it.

So if you too are suffering from old, wrinkly, dry skin, give it a try. All you'll have to lose is about $2.00!!

18 days left !!!

TO ALL MY CANADIAN FRIENDS,
I love my doctors, so please don't take my comment on Canadian doctors the wrong way. Just seems funny that we have so many here!
My Orthopedic surgeon is from Canada!!
Love Di ♥

I'll have to look for that cocoa butter stuff. We always have a jar of Vaseline around. It serves a LOT of purposes!

Uhmmm, dearie, why don't you set up the 6 month appointment while you are at the doc's office? Then go home, put it on the calendar, and it's done deal!

The Vaseline/cocoa butter is an interesting find. I've been using a few drops of olive oil on my face and neck every morning and evening for a few months now, and like you, I can't say I'm looking 40 again (HAH!!!), but it is really making my skin nice. I think the fine wrinkles have lessened. Even if it is my wishful thinking, I'm happy!! chuckle! Dr. Oz has recommended olive oil for so man skin conditions that I though I'd give it a whirl, and I'm happy with it.

Di...My Grandchildren all have the same dry skin that Katie did/does. We can't bathe them in anything except Dove soap...and have to watch for those places on their little feet that turn red and dry. Wonderful suggestion about the Vasoline with Cocoa Butter. I'm going to get some...and recommend it to Mama, too. Thank you, my friend. (I'm counting on it making me look 20 years younger!!!! :))) )
You know that I know that you are and always have been a wonnnderful Mother. No "dissing" my friend, Di...not even Di can "diss" Di...Jackie won't hear of it.
Love you girl....

Oh for Pete's sake! I meant to say how glad I am that you got to the root of Katie's "problem" and that she's feeling better again.

I'm glad to hear Katie is feeling better. I have the ear thing, too, so have great empathy for Katie. My ear thing has never been cured although many docs have tried.

The new Vaseline stuff looks pretty good. I'll look for it.

I am going out tomorrow first thing and buying some Vaseline with Cocoa Butter! I hope this means Katie doesn't have to go to the neurologist after all. Thinking of you, Di!

I never heard about exema in the ears, I can see where it goes anywhere, I had some kids with it - although not in the ears.

Vaseline and cocoa butter, hmm - will look for it when I get out there in the heat again. Have been using Dollar General brand cold cream, as my Mom swore by it and her face was softer than a baby's bottom. I can't use the Pond's because of the fragrance in it. I like the smell of cocoa butter! :-) Thanks for the um, advertisement!

Hmmmm. The solution to your skin problems is to butter yourself up. OK, if you say.
Interesting what Canadian doctors do for you south of the border. (We're nice people up here; always happy to share. We'd share our medicare with you as well as our doctors and nurses, but there are powerful forces aligned against Americans who want effective health care.)

It's the simple things which we all sometimes forget about, especially when they become Katie's age...something on the line of not having to remind them to brush their teeth after a certain age...so don't beat yourself up over it Di. Glad Katie is feeling better, that's one less worry for you... on your countdown to surgery.

I wonder if that new Vaseline has made its way to Canada? Probably not yet.

So glad to hear that Katie is feeling better. I will have to check out that Vaselinestuff. My feet are in horrible condition from going barefoot all the time and wearing flip flops year round. Thanks for the suggestion.

Glad you got to the root of Katie's problem. It's not fun to have a sick daughter.

I think I'll give that Vaseline/Cocoa butter a try. Thanks for the tip.

glad shes feeling better.
you are NOT an old and crappy mother!
I'll have to look out for the Cocoa Butter Vaseline. Especially now during the summer when my skin is dry after too much sun.

You are a good Mom , I love the calendar idea...only 18 more days....don't be too hard on yourself, good tip on dry skin, going to try that if I can find it. So many of our doctors have gone to the States,,,,I think more money. Lots of people up here can not even find a family doctor. take care, be checking in on you soon.

Hi Di,

Glad Katie is feeling better, glad that you will be having your surgery soon.

The reason a lot of our Doctors and Nurses are moving South of the 49th is they are being paid for what they are worth and not for what our Government thinks they are worth.

People wait years for a family doctor here, and the Clinic Doctors are worked off their feet.

Sorry I haven't been by in a Spell, Will keep you in Prayer my Friend.

Clogged up ears can be a scary problem. I had a similar situation a few years back. I was essentially deaf in my left ear for nearly a year. My ear doctor wasn't able to dislodge whatever was there and I thought my hearing loss was permanent. Then all of a sudden the blockage was gone and everything was fine. My hearing is great now, but it gave me a scare for a while.

I have been remiss at reading blogs so the whole time I was reading about how bad a mother you are I kept thinking..."OK, but what about the surgery?" so thanks for letting me know that it's in 18 days. I'm sure you're anxious to have it done and over.
