" We're Workin' On It. "

Those are the words that my husband heard on the phone today.
"We're workin' on it."

Sometime this morning Katie and I discovered that not only was our cable stations not working but our internet as well.

Now I must say that in general our cable company is very good. It is rare that we have an outage or other problems.

However, my husband and I have one major complaint. The automated customer service. I like to refer to this woman as " The animated lady". I don't like her. I really, really do not like her.

I feel like a fool trying to have a conversation with a fake woman. An animated lady. She tries so hard to be sweet but she never ever gives me what I want. I want a real person. I end up using obscenities at her and then most of the time I just hang up on her.

I would apologize to her but she is automated/animated after all.

It didn't bother me one bit when I discovered that we only had one channel to watch. It didn't bother me one bit that I couldn't go online.

I have a fifteen year old girl. Do you realize what cable and internet mean to a fifteen year old girl?

I grew up with a black and white television. We only had about nine channels. I grew up with a phone that was attached to the wall. I couldn't sneak off into my room to talk to my friends.

To this very day, I love black and white movies and shows. Katie will not watch them because they are not in COLOR ! She misses so many good old movies and shows because of this.

When I was fifteen, we barely knew what a computer was. I remember my high school had a computer room for a computer class that they offered. It was the only room in the entire school that was air conditioned. I remember not understanding what this class was all about.

There were over two thousand students in that school and I rarely saw any of them in that class!

Not having internet access today did not bother me either. I had plenty to do and accomplished much. I listened to good Jazz all day. Even danced a bit.

I talk to my husband several times a day. He is a truck driver and is gone for two weeks at a time. When I told him what was going on and that Katie seemed as though she was in some sort of strange, foggy confusion, he asked if I had called the cable company.

I told him no. I really didn't care and I didn't want to talk to the animated lady. I do not like the animated lady. Besides I knew that the problem would be solved eventually. After all, I do have faith.

My dear sweet husband offered to call the animated lady for me. I don't know. Perhaps he has a thing for her. She is overly friendly.

To me she is sickeningly sweet. But since he offered, I said go for it.

I can never seem to get a real person on the phone. I've tried to be nice to the animated lady, really I have. Yet I always resort to cursing at her.

I think that my husband is flirty. He denies it. He says that he doesn't see it. He says that if he is, it is done unconsciously. Whatever!
He still manages to get to a REAL person. I think the animated lady likes him.

Am I jealous? Whatever works. He did manage (Of Coarse) to get a real person.

And for all of his flirty ways with the animated lady, what did he hear from the REAL person?

No it wasn't "One ringy dingy, two ringy dingy."  It was those words that really make us feel satisfied.

"We're workin' on it."

It was nice of him to call. It did make Katie feel better knowing that they were workin' on it.

As for me. Well as you can tell, I am back here with you. Yet I had a really good day without all of the technology. A really good day.

As for Katie. She seems back to her usual self. She's on line right now too.

As for my husband Jake. It was very nice of him to offer to call "The animated lady" for me.

Yet somehow, I got the feeling that he was a bit TOO happy to call
"The animated lady".

Gosh Di, whenever I want a chuckle I just need to pop in here for a visit.
I hate it when I get the animated callers but I laughed when Jake got the real deal.....typical isn't it.....and funny too.
I don't miss the cable when the power goes out but I do miss my internet....I love being on line.
So glad everything is up and running my friend, luv you....Hugs

If only we could talk to the "one ringy dingy, two ringy dingy" lady insted of those avatar-types. Those automated things never work quite right, and even the obnoxious nasal voice would be better! I'm glad, for Katie's sake, that you're back to normal!

Oh, oh..I could only smile...:) That animated lady that we also call 'voice prompt'? well, they get us irritated if they could only answer 'no worry, we're working on it now' but the fact is, that's a recorded voice and we don't have enough assurance that they are really workin on it.

Too good of ur hubby to do it for you...;) and ermmm...that ur a bit jealous...oh, we are really possessive women!

Nice ur back blogging Diana!

Oh, how we can all identify with the "animated lady." I just have to chuckle about Katie's distress without a connection. I, too, miss my connections, especially when we are on the high seas, but I manage to find something else to do when I don't have a connection or just a poor one. We have grand kids who are just like your Katie. :)

Great post. :)

Hi Bernie,
I do miss blogging, but that's it really. I have sooo many projects and work around here. There is always, always something to do!
And it was really nice listening to music all day!

Di...You don't know HOW glad you are back here with us (me!)
You need to write and publish...and I'm serious!
You simply are great at it!
I don't like the animated lady either...but have never thought of calling her that. From now on...until the phone line goes dead as I am waiting to "Press 1" or "Press 2" I will always think of her as the 'animated lady' thanks to you.
I love your dandelion header. I have been meaning to tell you that.
Most of all, I love your 'put it out there and tell it like it is' with THE best sense of humor. You are such a sweet friend....and did I mention that I luv you! Tell Jake that his million dollar check might not be in the mail...but....well...we'll just leav it at that!
You do make me smile....and I'm always happy to be here!
Love,
Jackie

Alright, lets try this again. Are you having trouble with the automated lady?
Alright, so you are having a problem with the automated lady. O.K.
What is your problem with the automated lady?
I'm sorry. I didn't understand you.
Are you having a problem with the automated lady?
Lets try this again. So you say taht you are having a problem with the automated lady. I get it now.
What is your problem with the automated lady?

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I don't like her. AT ALL!!!!!!!!!

Hi Amity,
Do you think it is possible to strangle the automated lady?
Oh wait, my husband may not like that, LOL!!! Love Di ♥

Hi Lois,
I truly enjoyed the NON-Technology day today. Unless you count the radio!
It is just nice to know that I could survive without! And have a good time to boot, which you should be doing right now! Love Di ♥

Hi Jackie!
My sweet daughter Ginny, made the dandelion header for me! I wouldn't have a clue. Although I am very proud of myself as I figured out how to burn a CD this week. All by myself!

When Katie was little there was a song on the show "Blues Clues". In the song, he was very excited to get the mail. Ginny, Katie and I still sing this song when Jake is home to get the mail.

I know that he really does believe that there will be something special waiting for him other than a bill!

I miss you Jackie. Love Di ♥

Hi Di,
If you pretend you still have one of those dial phones, you can press 0 and usually get a real person.

I got a good chuckle out of your post! You are so funny and in good humor today.

Yeah! I think we all spend way too much time online, although I do love to keep in touch this way. After all, we wouldn't have a Village if it were not for the Internet.

Thinking of you...stay cool! (((HUGS))) TT

Jake could get a full-time job calling all our animated ladies. If he would handle them for us, we'd be so indebted to him. Sometimes it works to press zero when the animated lady comes on - once and awhile, you are transferred to a real live person. I'm so old, Di - computers weren't even invented when I was in high school!

Hi Diana! Oh this is a great post! I'm with Bernie on the chuckles here! Oh Lily Tomlin's photo is PERFECT ... Everything you said here is so true! Remember corded phones? I still have one at school... 2 feet... 3 if I stretch it to the point of coming out of the wall :D
I agree about getting REAL PEOPLE on the phone... it's like a luxury!
My brother-in-law travels a lot... My sister really misses him...
Thanks for all your wonderful visits and comments, Diana! You are a blessing to many ♥

Diana said...

Hi Teresa!
Truthfully, Jake has told me that he keeps pressing zeros until he gets an actual person! But he still has to listen to the animated lady first!
And yes I do miss my blog friends but it is nice to know that there are other things to enjoy!
Love Di ♥

Diana said...

Well Barb,
I am really not that far behind you!
It just seems so funny to me that todays generation can't imagine anything else.
It is very sad yet our own fault as well.

Hi Maria,
The thing that sticks in my mind the most is how tangled the phone cord would get!
And then there was that time that I was talking on phone, not paying attention, playing with a bobby pin (remember those?)when I stuck it in an electrical plug!
Why? I wasn't paying attention.
What happened?
I got shocked but, I'M STILL HERE!!!!

You had 9 channels when you were growing up! Wow I'm jealous. The most we ever had was 5.

I agree about black and white movies. Some of my favorite movies are in black and white. You'll see when I post my 12 favorite movies list.

Di, really pretty banner picture! And sweet to read that Ginny made it for you, makes it more special!

I hate all those automated answering services! Especially the ones that want you to talk to them, they NEVER understand me!

I hate being without my computer! Even when I have problems with Blogger and can't post, it makes me feel cut off from everyone. I'm getting more used to it now, but it's still kind of a strange feeling, like being on a deserted island or something!

Anyway, I'm glad that 'all's well that ends well' for you!
Really funny post, Di, I enjoyed it a lot!
Love to you, E

What a fun post to wake up to, Di...if Jake has a crush on "The animated lady" on the phone, he may REALLY be stuck on the "GPS Lady" with the oh-so sensual voice. Oh no! Does he have one of those systems in his truck?

I enjoy your writing, it's always a wonderful read, Di! I think of you as the Village's "in house comic", in your writing at least!

In real life you're a warm, sweet, sincere, person who just knows how to complain with humor!!!

♥...Wanda

Diana said...

Well Eileen I really did miss my computer but I knew we'd be back online eventually! I did manage to get a lot done because of the outage!
Love Di ♥

Diana said...

Hi Wanda,
Jake doesn't have a GPS. He would have to have a special one for big rigs as they can't use all of the roads that we do. Needless to say they are VERY expensive!
So at least I don't have to worry about that animated lady!

Glad that you are back and visiting. I lost my Internet Connexion on Sunday. The funny thing is my TV and Phone were working so i thought the Cable Company was working on the line for the Internet. I got through to a Live Person at the Cable Company. Hey told me that they weren't and once we checked things he couldn't figure out why the Cable Company put a booster in the line, then added filters in the line going into the Internet Modem to decrease the signal. I got a Service call for today anywhere between 1200 and 1700. It will give me the chance to get some house cleaning done whilst I wait for the Cable Tech, OH, no sooner did I get off the phone with the Service Rep my Internet Connexion stayed on and has been on ever since. Anyway Di, glad to see you back. Oh, I also hate those automated voices, it gets fun when you give a response that they don't understand, eventually they pass you onto a live voice.

I think you'd better pay attention to your suspicions :)

How funny, Di! I don't like those "animated ladies" either. They never seem to have the options I need. And then when I get to the end of their options, I can't remember the # to the one that seems closest to my question!

Glad you're back. That one day didn't hurt anyone, did it? (Well, maybe Katie..)

Diana said...

Hi Bill,
I am glad that your internet connection started working again. I have had that same thing happen before. I am waiting for a repairman today. My dryer broke down on Monday. I am just praying that he can fix it as it is over twenty years old! I don't want to have to buy a new one.
Love Di ♥

Diana said...

Hi Rebecca,
You can tell how much I enjoy calling them as I just don't do it anymore! Kind of funny what I will do without just to avoid the call! Love Di ♥

Bill ~ {The Old Fart} said...

Di, the Cable Tech was by and it was the filters that was causing the problem, he couldn't figure out why the other tech put them in, the Signal Levels were fine. I hope you have as easy of a time with your Dryer, fingers are crossed for you, prayers sent.

Sounds like our cable company. The ersatz person is Melanie, and she drives us crazy. We can't get past her to a real person, consequently we still have a cell phone that uses the area code of where we used to live -- 500 miles away.

Jackie said...

I miss you, Di....
I came here from Rebecca's blog...reading what you had written, and wish I lived closer...I want to give you a special hug....knowing that you miss your Mom....but I smile as I think of you and your Mom trying to 'be quiet' in the 'quiet zone'...and like you and your Mom, I think I would have had fits of laughter, too! What makes us like that? I dunno...but it's memorable...and fun....and I wanted to give you a special hug tonight...because I can.
You know I love you, my friend.

Thank you for commenting on my blog because that brought me to your blog. I laughed while reading your post because I've been in your position several times with customer service "people". By the time I get to speak with a real person, I forget why I called!

I don't care whether they're male or female! But I would like a real person once in a while. Still, you've kept your sense of humour. That's all that matters.
