" A Few Pleasantries "

Today is a special one for me. On this very day, 34 years ago, my beautiful baby boy came into this world! I was six days away from my 20th birthday.

I wanted this baby so much. He was all I had dreamed of since I was very young. Frank is a wonderful man. A hard worker. He's been with the same company for 15 years. Or is it 17, my how time flies!

I am very proud to call him my son. And very proud of the life and family that he has made for himself.

Frank doesn't read my blog, at least I don't think he does. You could say he's a bit like his mother in so far that he is always busy working. If not on the job, then at home.

Anyway I still wanted to say that I love him and wish him a Happy Birthday!

I've been amazed at the beauty of the blooms in my yard. I went outside this evening and took a few photos. The colors are beautiful.

And this is what I worked on this morning.

Step 1...

Step 2...

Step 3...

It took me 2 hours and 15 min. I would have liked to use actual weed barrier but had to settle for the newspapers. Which is fine it just doesn't last as long.

There are a few Easter Lilies in there and some other unidentified flower. I've found quite a few unidentified flowers this year. I planted several perennials around the yard last year before the knee surgery and I didn't bother to record the in my garden journal. So I will have a few surprises this summer!!

We are expecting rain the next couple of days but I am hoping to get some more work done in the yard this weekend. The lawn mower died last week so we get to go lawn mower shopping.

I'm so excited, not!

So how does your garden grow?

Happy birthday to your son.....I "hear" your pride and joy in him.

And WOW! Your flowers are marvelous! I can see hours and pleasure have gone into your beds...I hope you stop long enough to just sit/stand and enjoy the beauty.

Happy Birthday to Frank! You really have some colorful blooms already. Is that red a Clematis? (My favorite color!) Hope your knees still feel fine after all the garden work! Take care, Di - I'm thinking about you.

Glad to see such a lovely post and pictures of your handsome son! The flowers are gorgeous.

I am amazed that you got that whole area done in 2 hours! I haven't even considered gardening yet! I'm lucky that my husband does the weeding and most of the planting. I just reap the harvest of cut flowers and veggies in summertime!

Happy Birthday to Frank! The clematis flowers are lovely Di, yours are farther along than mine ...but like you, we have to shop for a push mower this year too.

Oh Di! Happy Birthday to Frank!!! Your flowers are beautiful! Those beauties don't thrive in Arizona. I miss that, too. Most things here either have stickers or thorns. Tumble weed is especially nasty with their stickers at the root area where you grab and try to pull them up.

As my sweet mother use to say: HAPPY BIRTH-DAY (since you are the one that actually gave him birth) to you Di! And of course I hope your son aslo has a wonderful day as well. You should be celebrating and your family celebrating the gift you gave. YOUR SON! My mother always called me on my childrens birthday to wish me well. I has always thought that was soooo....right...to do that. BOY OH BOY my garden is going to be so pretty this year, I planted lots of bulbs...and flowers galore, not even sure...what, they just looked so pretty at the garden center I grabbed all kinds hehehe. I LOVE what you did to the side of your yard and the newspaper is such a great thing to use, as it is bio- ya know! It is going to be so pretty! HOPE that the life altering situation is coming along alright!

COngrats to Frank.

Our garden: the crocuses have come and gone. The daffs are not in flower yet. Other spring plants, such as tulips, have sent up shoots. That is all.

Oh I am sooo envious of your garden!
It's still too cold up here, even though it's called 'Southern Ontario'. We can't really get into the gardening until near the end of May. This year I'll have the chance to start a brand new garden as there isn't really one at this house. I can hardly wait to get "down and dirty", LOL.
