Diana's Knee Surgery Is Complete! Hooray!

This is Ginny, Diana’s daughter. I’m on strict orders to update my mom’s blog with her status now that she’s out of surgery. So without any further adieu…

Diana made it through surgery and is doing well. In fact, she’s doing better than expected, according to her nurse. I don’t know quite what that means (did the nurse not expect she would do well?) but it sounds good to me.

Just how well is she doing? Well, she called me just two hours after having her knees replaced! She sounded upbeat on the phone (though tired and her voice was scratchy). She said she felt better than she sounded. I’m guessing that’s attributable to the adrenaline and the drugs.

Isn’t it incredible to think that you can wake up in the morning, go to the hospital and have two of your knees replaced in roughly three hours? I mean, in the time you can pop that long movie “Avatar” into your DVD player and watch it from beginning to end you can have two new knees?! How insane is that? Thank you, modern medicine!

But now the hard part begins. Physical therapy. She has to find the strength to bring those two new knees to life. My mom is tough as nails. Truly she is. But this isn’t going to be easy.

I know my mom will be reading this in the hospital soon. So please leave any well wishes and words of encouragement that she can reflect on as she prepares for the next step in this exciting and scary transformation.

Thank you for your support!

That is so good to hear! I was wondering how long it would be before she could let us know how it went! Thank for letting us know! It is amazing how fast they can do things now and how much faster you heal! I am tickled.

Get well, Di and get back to us! (after the required exercises, that is)

Thank you, Ginny, for posint the update about Di's surgery.
I'm so glad that Di is doing well.
I'm expecting that she will be up and about and doing a happy dance very soon!!!
Good on ya, Di! I'm so proud for you and of you. As you read this, know that I'm thinking about you...giving you the thumbs up from here to there....and look forward to talking to you by phone very soon. Until then, kick butt my sweet friend. Recuperate...rest well....take your meds (hear me!!) and do what the docotr says. I know that you are among the toughest women I know...with a heart of gold, and with those two combinations going, you will be dancing or jumping or whatever you want those knees to do very soon. Prayers of thanksgiving go up right now for you, Di. "Dear Heavenly Father, thank You so much for being with Di, the doctors and nurses and Di's family through her knee replacement surgery. Thank you, dear Father, for taking care of her, watching over her every single second... As she heals, Father, I pray that you continue to give her strength and more strength. Thank you again, Heavenly Father for taking such tender care of Di. Amen."
Love to you, my dear friend.
Hugs,
J.

Thanks, Ginny, for the thoughtful note.
Glad to know, Diana, that your first adventure towards becoming a Bionic Woman went so well. Physio is not easy, but I'm sure you'll catch on to it fairly soon, though we won't sign you up for a Marathon just yet.
Blessings and Bear hugs!

Oh Di, I'm so grateful that you were able to have this done, and even more grateful that you are doing so well afterwards!
It's not an easy thing to have both knees done at once, by any stretch of the imagination! You must be tough as nails to be able to "walk" through this, and you will be!
I'm praying that you will have the courage and the strength to push even harder when it hurts to much in PT, or in those little moments when you might wonder if it really was a great idea lol...Now you have the ability to LIVE your life, be in the driver's seat again, and make some wonderful memories, with your two new knees!!!
Love you~

Thank you, Ginny for the update. I've been thinking of Di, hoping all had gone well.

Di, now your part in the miracle of new knees begins - the PT! I know you'll be up and around doing the high kick soon. In the meantime, rest and recuperate.

OK! that is wonderful news! DI if you are reading this that means you are at least sitting up! But you will probably re-read all your well wishes 2 or 3 times because you read them the first time while on some really nice pain killers! hehehe, and OH how are the toes? make sure you tell the nurse to give you a tender foot rub...that is what they are paid for ya know! hehe and oh tell them to rub some of that wonderful cocoa butter vaseline on them since you can't really bend your knees quite yet in the position you need to...HOPE YOUR DOING OK! prayers are being said in your behalf! hugs...linda

I am so glad that Ginny posted for us to see how you were making out. 3 hours is amazing, you must be superwoman. I know the physio will be hard, just keep the faith in what you will be able to do after wards. sending big hugs to you. I am praying for a swift recovery and knees that work better than you ever imagined.
hugs.
