" I Finally Bit the Bullit ! "

Well I did it . I finally went and got the shot . They offered it to me about two years ago and I turned them down . Thanks but no thanks .
I am not afraid of needles . I have had four shots in each hand for a total of eight and it hurt like hell but the relief was worth it .

For some reason , getting a shot in my knee really kind of freaked me out . And I don't know why . It is a good thing that my daughter-in-law , Amy , offered to go with . I think I might have canceled had she not .

They took X-rays again as it had been a long time since I was there for the knee. The doctor said that my knees were really bad .

I could have told him that . We talked about Synvisc , which is an injection of a natural substance that is supposed to mimic joint fluid . If my insurance o.k.'s this than I can have that injection as well .

We talked a little about knee replacement . It is a possibility somewhere down the line. But hopefully not for several years yet . It looks like I will be having these shots on a regular basis . When that doesn't work anymore than we will talk surgery.

I was so nervous and I am so not a baby when it comes to pain . I don't know what my problem was . But my worries were needless as it didn't hurt one bit . They told me that the ones in the hands hurt way more .

Still I didn't look . The weirdest thing about it was that I had trouble walking afterward and was very glad that Amy was there !

So except for the fact that I really must accept that I can't do everything anymore , It wasn't so bad . It is a little swollen and a little sore . They said I should be good by Friday .
Just in time to start making a huge batch of potato salad !

Hi Di, I knew you were suppose to go today and I sensed your being a bit nervous....I am so glad you went. I find the hands are much more painful when I get the shots, much more than my back and knees. I hope by Friday everything will be less painful, I know it takes 2-3 days before mine start feeling better and the relief is wonderful.
I am so proud of you, as I know how hard it is to live with pain. So just relax for the next couple of days and let the shot work.
(I said a prayer this morning for you and for me and our arthritis)
Love ya........:-) Hugs

Good for you, Di!
I hope it helps a lot! And I'm glad it wasn't painful. And how good of your daughter-in-law to go along with you. That does always seem to help somehow!
Keep us posted on how you are doing.
And if you get a chance email me and let me know how everything else is going.
I think about you a lot and say lots of prayers too.
I wish you all good things, Di, you deserve the best!
Love you lots, E

I've had shots in the heel, and they smarted a bit, which is too bad because they didn't help me. I think you will have better luck though.

Diana...so glad it went smoother than you expected...now just relax and take it easy. Years ago, about 30, my MIL had knee relacement surgery and a friend recently had it done...the procedure is quite different now...my friend is so thankful for having done it...so when the time comes...embrace it without fear...well a little fear is OK...just no kicking and screaming.

Take care,
Wanda

Oh My Diana! I had no clue this is what you were going for when we were in conversation yesterday! Since you say the relief is worth it, just hang in there! You will snap out of it in no time. Just think positive and distract yourself from the pain with some reading or writing and ofcourse sleeping! Take care!

My mom had those shots and she sure didn't like the painful part but sure did love the relief afterward part. So glad I prayed for you about this.

Having someone with you makes a world fo difference because you have someone to talk to and release your tension that way. In your case she could even support you physically when the walking was difficult. Tell Amy thank you from me for helping you...If I had been there I would have loved to help you and be there for you!

blessings and healing hugs to you,

marcy

Hi Bernie,
The thing that bothers me the most is that the bones keep catching every step I take. This is a new development and I hope the shot makes that go away. So far though it's not hurting but all I've been doing is sitting. Last night it was Quite sore but that part is gone. I go back in six weeks to see if I can get the Synvisc. Have you ever had that?

Hi Eileen,
I didn't watch but it didn't hurt! Nothing like the ones in the hands. They said there are more nerves in the hands. I swear Eileen if not for Amy I would not have went!

Hi AC,
Why did you have them in your heel? Was it because the foot pad is worn away? The foot gets a lot of use, probably why it didn't work. They don't work on my hands very long anymore. Just a couple of weeks!

Hi Wanda,
The doctor said that the knee replacement had a lot longer recovery than I might think. He said it can take up to a year and a half before you really know how well it's going to work and lots of psychical therapy! He said I would be out of commission for probably longer than I think. Thats why he said it would be better to wait and try the shots and Synvisc first. And since it's just Katie and me most of the time it's not a good option right now.

Hi Tranquility,
I had fun chatting with you yesterday! The knee is not hurting at all right now, it just keeps catching when I walk. It's uncomfortable. But I am sitting on my butt now and am working on crocheting today. It is about 7:15 p.m. by you right now. I wonder what you are doing!

Oh Marcy,
You would have laughed at me yesterday as I was asking so many questions before the shot. Finally my dil said " alright quit stalling and just let him give you the shot!" Then the doctor said " Is that what she's doing?". Than I got the shot. I am never a baby like that. But now I know that it wasn't painful and it was probably the prayers that helped! Thank you!

HI DIANA -

I have had cortisone shots in the sacaral (sp) joint on the left side of my lower, lower back. it helped a lot.

You were brave too and I hope you feel relief soon.

Love Gail
peace.....

Your probably right Terrie. My initial worry was that I might make my knee worse if I didn't feel any pain. But the Dr. said that I will feel it even with the shot if I over stress it. It's starting to feel better already! Thanks.

Hi Gail,
I also have problems in the SI joints. don't know if that's the same as what you had? But that may be next for me. I would just be happy to walk without constant pain. Is that too much to ask for?

Thank goodness Amy went along! I started sweating when you began describing the experience - a little too much empathy, maybe? Hope tomorrow brings you even greater relief.

So how are you doing now? Did the shot help? I do hope so! It is so refreshing to hear about MIL's and DIL's that love each other! Yay for you. Yay for Amy. Blessings on all of you.
