" Collections " Part One

Collections
–noun
1.
the act of collecting.
2.
something that is collected;  a group of objects or an amount of material accumulated in one location, especially for some purpose or as a result of some process: a stamp collection; a collection of unclaimed hats in the checkroom; a collection of books on Churchill.

For some time now I've been wanting to do a post about collections.
This idea came to me several months ago when one of my fellow Bloggers, Rebecca from "Life and Godliness"
did a post about a collection of beautiful tins that she had.

I had started noticing that I had several tins around my house. It seemed strange to me as I never consciously gave these tins a thought.
I had picked one up here and there without giving a thought about collecting them. I just knew that if I spotted one that I liked, I would purchase it. Thrift stores are a great place to find them!

This got me to thinking and looking around my home. That is when I realized just how many little collections I had acquired over the years.

This also made me wonder if there are others out there that may have collected things over the years unconsciously. I think that most of my collections I had intended on collecting but then there are others that just started and I have no idea why!

So I have decided that about once a week, I will show some of these collections here. Some of them are quite nice and some a bit odd. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste.

I am going to start today's collection with one that really isn't mine while it is in my possession. This was my mothers collection. I remembered her collecting them when I was a teen.

When mom passed away, my daughter Ginny expressed an interest in this collection. So she packed them up and left them here for me to keep until someday she could bring them home or I could send them to her. In the meantime, I decided to display them, a different one each month. The following photos are self explanatory as to why.

January, February and March.

April, May and June.

July, August and September.

October, November and December.

I think it's quite a cute collection.

I hope that you enjoyed today's collection.
I'm not quite sure which collection I will post about next.
Stop by next weekend to see!

Yes, that's a wonderful collection. And, having them all makes them even more valuable. :) Very nice.

Those are very cute!

I have a collection of dogs; does that count? No? OK. Part of it was unintentional, does that help? Still no?

I have some Christmas collections, such as Santa figurines from all over the world.

I've begun a collection of crosses, again, trying to get them from all over the world, and I realized recently that I didn't bring one back from Hawaii!! darn.

And I don't know if this counts, but I try to save one special thing from each person I love who passes on. I've picked things that help me remember that person, so they aren't really a "set." I have a Swiss army knife and a smoking jacket that was my dad's; a hair pin that was my grandmother's and a leaded glass apothecary jar that she kept her horehound drops in; a shawl that was my mother's (Dad bought it for her in Mexico)and her favorite print that hung in the living room as long as I can remember; a cross my husband wore every day after we bought it in Mexico on a cruise; a tiny birdhouse and a gold-dipped rose that were my sister's, etc. They are things that comfort me. I've never considered them a collection, but now I'd call them a collection of sweet memories. :)

These are adorable! And I really like the idea of posting your various collections! Be sure to include an idea of how you display them, too. That might give me some ideas for displaying some of my own!

Hope you're enjoying the day. Wondering if Jake got home.

I tend to be a collector and like you sometimes don't realize I've been collecting certain things. It usually happens when somebody gives me something to add to the collection that I didn't realize I had.
My mother has a wonderful collection of clowns and commerical clown "art". She says now that she's never liked clowns and that she kept them around because she thought my father liked them. It sure made buying gifts fun though, looking for new and unique clowns.

They remind me of Hummels, which my father-in-law collects.

Hello Diana, Just popped in to see what you've been up to. I used to collect minerals from all over Africa, things like Geod's and crystals but since I tended to move around a lot I had to get rid of quite a few. I still have lots but have stopped collecting because things tie me down too much but I do understand your collecting habits. Have fun and may God bless you. Geoff.
