Carol King .
Remember her? She had an album (large c.d. for you younger folk) back in the seventies. I had this album and I loved the title song "Tapestry" .
I consider myself to be an adequate singer. Most of the time I can hold a tune. But there was a time or two or three that I had purposely sang off key. Those times came when my children, at one time or another, had irritated me to the point of screaming ! First I will type out the verse of the song that I sang. Remember I had purposely sang this verse out of tune and very loudly. Usually done when my children would drone on and on to the point that they would bring me to the edge of insanity.
I apologize to Carol King if I do not remember the lyrics word for word.
Here it goes.
Sung very purposely off key.
" My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue. An everlasting vision of an ever changing view. A wondrous woven tattered cloth in bits of blue and gold, a tapestry to feel and see , impossible to hold. "
It goes on , but I'm sure you get the idea. Singing this verse of the song as off key as I could, made my children cringe and give up on their tangent immediately. I would usually hear " Mom, stop!" , as they would stomp off into another room.
Mission accomplished.
I am not a cruel mother. But I do possess some ammo. I haven't had to use this in quite a while. Thank Heaven. But I will if I have to.
And trust me, you will want to run.
Lets just say that desperate times call for desperate measures. Those times when I became overwhelmed with life and young children, I turned to Carol.
Now, My reasoning behind this story tonight is not due to my thirty-one , twenty-eight, or fourteen year old's behavior. No . They have all behaved like perfectly fine human beings as of late.
Well except for Katie's consistently annoying question that I am hearing day after day. " When are you going to take me driving?".
I tried, after church Sunday. We will save this for another post.
I need to get over that incident first.
Thinking back to this unusual punishment of mine is surfacing from some challenges that I am facing right now. While I do pray often, I can't help but think that if I sing Carol's " Tapestry " Off tune , it might perhaps chase all of the bad things away.
So lets just say for now that " My Life Has Been a Tapestry ".

I remember this song, I use music to help out the moods as well. I don't sing, but put my music on.
I loved that song, and had to smile when you said you would sing it off key on purpose, I sang it off key because I can't sing....
Hope everything is going well my friend, you may be looking at the back of the tapestry right now but oh when you turn it over it will be beautiful...Luv ya....:-) Hugs
I remember that song as well--great lyrics.
If it helps, by all means sing long and loud--and off key!
Your tapestry will turn out just the way God planned it, though we don't always see it as it's being woven. Have a blessed day. Donna
Diana you are such a great story teller...just like a good book I hated to see the post end! You are "fun" to be with!
Hope the challenges are't too difficult...and that your off key singing works. If it would help I'd sing off key along with you.
Can't wait to hear about the driving incident!
Luv and Smiles,
Wanda
I love Carol King! I love Tapestry!
And I love this story!
You are too funny! And oh how I wish we had been friends when my kids were little, what a wonderful way to deal with the stress that comes along with raising a family! Much better than the tantrums I threw!
Okay, I'm glad Ray is bringing his laptop as I'm anxious to hear the driving story!
You are too funny!
I'll miss you (and I'm packing your address right now!)
Love to you!, E
Di...whatever challenges you are facing now, know that you have a Sister here that is thinking of you and definitey praying for you. I hug you from south Georgia. Would some south Georgia pecans help? I'm serious!! Many hugs to you from me....
Jackie
Hello to everyone!
Thank you for all of your lovely comments. I don't know how much time that I will have to post this week. I am hoping to get back here soon. My husband had to take a trip to the E.R. yesterday and discovered that he has a case of the shingles. It is very painful and he can't use his one hand. So I will be busy helping him and praying that this outbreak will not last too long. I am trying to keep up with every ones posts, but please forgive me if I miss one. I will be back here and there depending on how much time I can fit in. I love you all.
Love Di
Wow Di,
Now it seems you are the one with the 'full plate'! Sing away! I may even join you, and since I do not know the words or the tune, I am positive we will be off key!
We could sing that song while we ride the 'Roller Coaster' of life together. OMG! I know what you mean about driving, and as you know, I am in the process of trying to get my Driver Instructors Licence, but since I have been going on some ride-alongs, with the students and the instructor, I am definitely having sencond thoughts!!!!!!!I have heard so many horror stories, from the other instructors, and seen first hand the things these kids do, that I am now so scared to get in a car with a student alone. I can not wait to hear about your Student Driver experience.
Hope you hubby is feeling better soon!
LA LA LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH LA : )
((((HUGS)))) T
I know how horrible Shingles can be. My wife had them while she was pregnant with Pat. They both survived.
If singing, on or off key , helps to relieve the pressure then sing away.
Oh dear, shingles... I've heard they ARE painful.
praying for both of you...
Diana... Carol King's Tapestry... I have it as an old LP (think my brother took it though since my oldest always broke the record player needle)
one of the BEST ever... no wait...
Is Beast ;o)
And Dear Diana, another song on that album is
"You've Got a Friend"
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call...
God Bless,
Maria
Hi Diana!!
Keep singing :)
I love all the pictures in the previous post too....especially Ruby...you know I love her!!
I sent you an e-mail from my aol e-mail....let me know if you get it :)
Love, Jerelene
How funny that you post about singing and even though I didn't sing off tune, I did drive my kids crazy when they refused to get up for school by singing the christian song "Rise and shine and give God the glory, glory..." they would get up just to stop my singing!!
Will be keeping your hubby in prayer (so many, many prayer needs around blogland today and yesterday). Have had shingles myself (just along nerves on my upper back), but a lady from church had them in and around her EYE!! So crazy that they show up in so many different places on a person's body.
blessings with hugs and healthy prayers,
marcy
Hi Di,
I'm singing along with you, and I CAN'T carry a tune, so I think we'll chase your troubles away. I hope so!
