" Cranberries After all "

Sometimes plans change.
Actually I've always been a firm believer that we really shouldn't plan.
Maybe "Hope" would be a better word than "Plan".

I was telling one of my favorite Blogger friends, Rebecca,
from "Life and Godliness", that we wouldn't be having cranberries this year for Thanksgiving.

My mother and I were always the only one's that would eat them, fresh cooked not canned.
This will be our first Thanksgiving without my mom with us. I know we will all miss her smiling, cheerful face at our table this year.

So when my daughter-in-law, Amy, asked if she should pick some up, I said not to bother since I'm the only one that would eat them.
I couldn't eat all of those cranberries myself.

Well as it turned out my daughter Ginny who arrived yesterday from North Carolina, tried some last week for lunch at her work place.

Now she loves them!

So Ginny bought a bag of cranberries today and I went ahead and cooked them.
And while mom won't be able to be with us this year at our Thanksgiving table, it will be nice to know that I can still enjoy this treat with someone that I love.

Somehow I have a feeling that mom will be there too.
A "Blessed Thanksgiving" to all.

Very sweet. :) Yes, we love cranberries here and have no problem finding someone to eat them. I made a double batch today and hope I have enough for the 16 people who will be at the table tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hugs,
Lois

How sweet! Perhaps Ginny developed a taste for cranberries at the request of your mother. :) After all, Mom knew you needed a cranberry buddy!

Cranberry relish is one of the few things from a traditional Thanksgiving dinner that I actually like. Mine is raw with oranges, raspberries and a little jalapeƱo for zest. OMG, is it ever good!

My son cooked cranberries one year but I don't even remember if I tasted them. He's an excellent cook so I would imagine they would have been delicious. Maybe next year, I'll have to learn how to cook them.
Happy Thanksgiving to you.

My son wouldn't eat eggplant parm... then I told him that he should try a forkful every year since so many people love it... it must be that one day he will love it too, and won't know unless he tries *
now he loves it :o)

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Diana!

And for sure your Mom will be there! And I think cranberries on the table will be such a sweet reminder of her at your table. I think there should be cranberries at your Thanksgiving table even if you are the only one enjoying them!

Enjoy making a wonderful memory with your family, Di!
And thank you for being such a good friend!

Oh I would love cranberries too dear Di...:-)

It is both sad and happy to reminisce our beloved who left us, sad because they left us and happy because it reminds us of those good old days when they were still around and enjoying our company be on food, or bonding!

Thank goodness, there is Ginny with you now who finally loves cranberries, too...so enjoy my dear Di!

Happy thanksgiving.. :-)

Love,

Amity

Cranberries are supposed to be really good for you to eat-- I think they're high in anti-oxidents or something like that. I always get a can of the jellied cranberry stuff. I hope it's equally good to eat. My wife always says not to get them because nobody eats it, but I've noticed that every year the little glass dish of cranberry jelly is always gone at the end of the meal. Didn't look to see who got some, but several folks must have taken a least a taste.

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend!

Turkey without cranberries? How utterly uncivilized. Even a Bear knows that!

I'm glad things worked out for the cranberries! I love the new look of your blog for the holidays! Was thinking of doing something with mine but haven't decided what just yet!

BTW, I notice that you are Lutheran! I was raised in the Lutheran church...not Missouri Synod though!
Now I'm non denominational...just a plain old Christian!!

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Love, Vicki

Wow, that's wonderful that you get to carry on the tradition and enjoy your treat with someone.

I'm so glad you cooked up the fresh cranberries. Being from Wisconsin, we are used to lots and lots of cranberry treats. Canned cranberry sause is a no no in our house!

I know your mom was with you in your heart. Bless your momma.

Loads of love to you :)

I say that at least the first 3 to 5 holiday years without your parent are the hardest.

It's been 21 years since my mom passed on, and still I get a bit depressed and sentimental. Especially knowing my kids will never know how she loved this time of year, and that she won't get to be physically here to see their smiles as they enjoy the holidays with a child's eyes.

Keeping her traditions alive, and thinking/speaking of her keeps HER alive and around you, and within you. She is never really gone if you do those things.
