" Something Old, Something New "

This is a print I have hanging in my dining room. It is very old. It used to belong to my grandmother, LaVerne. I used to spend the night with her on the weekends when I was a little girl. She had this hanging in her bedroom. I can't remember the name of the artist. I remember looking at this print thinking that I wouldn't want that to happen to me.

Funny thing is that my grandmother never, ever once got upset with me. I don't remember her ever raising her voice to me. She was a very extraordinary woman. I think that I will post about her someday.

This is a photo of my two daughters. Katelin on the left and Virginia on the right. They are my grandmother LaVerne's great-granddaughters. I found this photo on my daughter Ginny's blog. I hope she doesn't mind that I borrowed it. I would title it "Sisters". I know that Ginny misses her great-grandmother LaVerne. I'm sure not as much as I do. But much more then Katie does as Katie doesn't remember anything at all about her. She will have to learn what a special woman that she was.

This is a photo of my mother Anna Mae on the left, my grandmother LaVerne in the middle and my late uncle Bill on the right. Don't you love old photo's?

These are a few of my favorite things!

Such a special post, Diana.
I think you look a lot like your Mom, and a little like your grandmother too. And I love old photos too.
I can get lost in them for hours and hours.
I would love for you to post about your grandmother too. I love the way you write.
And the picture your grandmother had of the little girl in the corner is adorable. I know that artist too, I have a few pictures, the one of the little girl preferring her old doll over the brand new one (I think the title is 'Love Is Blind'), and one of a baby boy sleeping, I'm pretty sure it's the same artist. I used to have them hanging in the kids rooms when they were little but now they are in the attic. I'll have to pull them out.

And I loved the picture of your girls at Dollywood (and not just because it had owls in it, although I did get a kick out of them! You can see why I love them, right?), but your girls just look so happy! It made me smile.
Thanks for posting this. I appreciate so much getting to see everyone's interests.
Take care of yourself.
Feel good.
Love and Prayers,
Eileen

Thank you Eileen, it's kind of funny because before I read your comment, I was looking at my profile photo and then grandma's photo,I saw the resemblance which I never noticed before!Isn't that crazy! I know I look a lot like my mom especially as I get older.
I had that print out of the frame once and thought I wrote the artist name down but forgot where I put it!!!!!!

Diana, it's Bessie Pease Gatmann.
I just found so much of her work online (including your picture and my two), I feel like I'd love to order every print! She did so many beautiful pictures.

I think I might have to do a whole post about her one day!
Let me go back and find the site and I'll give it to you.

OH, Diana, I so enjoyed your favorite things...this is a great way for all of us to share and get to know one another, isn't it?

That print with the little girl is so precious...makes you wan to pick her up and cuddle her! If I ever find one, I'll probably get it.
I, too, used to spend a week-end here and there with my grandmother, but she would usually cry when I had to go home. My dad said she was a strict mother, but she never ever raised her voice to me or scolded me...she was always loving, but lonely. I should do a post about her, too.

Your daughters look so cute and happy together, glad you snatched that photo!

The photo of your mom and grandmother and uncle is wonderful and in such good condition too and there is a family resemblance, a nice one!

Are you taking some acidophilous, sweetie pie, for your tummy? I'm doing mine, but I don't think it will help you via blog sites?!

blessings and prayers and hugs,

marcy

Your mother was a lovely woman. Very pretty and my mom had a picture like that hanging in her house. I think it was a very popular print many years ago. My friend gave me an old cook book from the twenties that had a pic of a lovely young black woman in it. I am going to post it to see if I can find out who she is.

Great post.

Hi Diana, I really loved your post, and the print of the little girl with the collie puppy is so adorable. I have seen that picture many times myself, and now I know who the artist is. She is an amazing artist. I too am going to go to the webside that Eileen found and check out her work. I also loved the picture of your girls, they are lovely, and they looks so happy. I am sure they will remember that day forever. The old photo of your mom and your grandmother, and uncle, showed me a family resemblence, and I love how people seemed to have an innocent glow back then. I think Friday Favorites are fun, and I have learned some things about you too. I would love to ride a Roller Coaster with you one day...it really gets your heart pumping. : ) Thank you for your kind and wise words on my blog. ((((HUGS)))) T.

Good morning Diana...
Old family photos are a real favorite of mine too...Isn't it funny how we neglect to see our own resemblance to a family member sometimes until one day it just stares you in the face...
Prints of little children are always special...their sweet innocence...
I will start doing a Friday Favorites post too if others are...
Are you feeling better Diana?
Hope so!
Smile and take care Diana!

Thanks Eileen for the info, I will go and explore her work. I remembered too that I bought a refrigerator magnet a few years back of the same picture. I think I was so surprised to see the same picture in a different form!

Hi Marcy, Grandma used to live in Schiller Park when I was growing up. Do you remember where that was? I haven't taken anything yet for my stomach Marcy. I have to go next week for a scope test of my stomach. I'm kind of afraid to do anything until then even eating hurts. I did get my test results yesterday and everything else was fine so I guess they are at least narrowing it down to the stomach! I have been thinking about trying the acidophilous but I guess I'm just afraid to try something until I know what it is. Do you think it would be alright to try it anyway?

Hi Bernie, I do find the resemblances funny because I always looked like my father growing up and now that's changing. And none of my kid's looked like me,period. I used to joke and say that if I were there father I would have questions because they look nothing like me. I still don't see any resemblance to me at all! Thank you Bernie!

Good Morning Garnetrose,
Thanks for visiting and I'm glad you liked the post! I'm sure if you post that picture someone will surely know who the woman is. That's one of the things I love about blogging, you can really learn so much! I like to see the picture myself, as I love, love, love old pictures!

Hi Teresa, I got all of your comments this morning, Thank You! I would love the roller coaster ride with you, I love the feeling of flying, don't you!
You are right about Katie having a good time in Raleigh. I think that's why she's so bored with me! Damn those big city's!! Anyway, we did go to Curves together but she did not like it. To many old ladies is how she put it! How nice of her! We did watch a good movie together last night and she is going camping with her brother for two days starting tonight, Yeah!!
I will blog all I want while she is gone!
I started a prayer journal!

Hi Wanda, I am going to go to your blog when I'm done here. I am o.k. The pain still gets bad and then not so bad. It comes and goes in waves. I am noticing more that it hurts when I eat and when my stomach is empty. All of the tests were good so now they will check my stomach. I think they wanted to rule out other things first because of the medications that I take. Thank you for caring Wanda,it really does help!
